Blog 5

In the past week I have learned I have many advantages. I already knew about most of my advantages, but I have learned I have some more. My family history project tought me all the advantages I had over my mom growing up. She did not have the technology advantages I have for one. This is a big advantage without it I would not be writing this blog. Technology has also made it easier for me to do a lot of little things in life. Without technology I personally would probably be lost. I also learned that I have a big advantage financially. My mother had to work her butt off to make it through college. She had to pay for college on her own and at sometimes had to take on two jobs. I am lucky and my parents help me pay for college. Some of it I pay for, but they help me a lot which makes life a lot easier on me.

I am lucky because of my social and economic location. My parents live in a beautiful neighborhood with a wonderful house they built themselves. They bought me my car and pay for my car insurance which is amazing. It lets me keep my money to enjoy a lot of fun things in life. Socially I get along with everyone and anyone. It does not matter what people look like or seem like. I only judge people on their personailty. I could careless about material status like most of the world. Politically I am not as lucky right now. I am a republican and the democrats are controling our nation. So, right now that seems to be the only thing in my life that is against me.

My race is a huge advantage in this world. I am lucky and do not have to deal with any of the racism that a lot of people face. I am caucasian and this is going to help me out in plenty of different ways. Even though people say that racism is over, I really do not believe that. They might not act as racist, but there are situations in which black people are discriminated against. I am also very lucky to be a male. Male's have many advantages that most female's do not. I do not have to worry about some of the scary things like being raped. Girl's fear this all the time because it would be the worst experience ever. Plus, there are more jobs available for males which is a huge advantage. Over all I feel I am very lucky and have a lot of advantages working on my side.

Violence has been apart of black people's life ever since they came to the United States. White's dominated and owned blacks' like they were a horse or other livestock. Everything that white people could do to blacks' has pretty much been done. Black people have been discriminated against for years. Black people have been beaten, lynched, raped, and many more. Black people started to fight back in two different ways. Some fought back with violence and others used non-violence.

Violence
The people who used violence followed the great "Malcolm X" as their leader. They would listen to what he said and follow him. He told the black community if the government was going to step in and help them out then they needed to stand up for themselves. He feels that black men should stand up for themselves and their family. He also states that every man can own a rifle or shotgun and he thinks all black men should have one. Malcolm X doesn't believe a black man should just go out and kill a white person. However, if the government will not help out blacks when whites are killing them and raping their wifes then the black man should step in and do whatever is necessary even death. Malcolm X did what he knew was right to stand up for himself. He was tired of all the racist people that happened to be most of the white community hurting the black community. He was sick of whites getting away with the harsh crimes they committed on blacks. If I was him I would of been the same way. It is awful that white men could rape black women and not have any consiquences. So, he got supporters behind him and rallied with violent acts against white men. That was how Malcolm X thought racism would end. He figured if whties were scared of blacks then they would respect them.

Non-Violence
The non-violent approach was the approach Martin Luther King Jr. took. He didn't want to fight whites he just wanted to gain their respect peacefully. He did this by holding many marches and saying many speeches. Martin gained many supporters to follow him. He did what he could to help make peace in the United States. His tactics involved a lot less deaths and overall helped win blacks their freedom.

Blog: 3

For blog 3 i decided to compare and contrast the differences between Chinese people and Japanese people. Originally I just grouped the Chinese and the Japanese in the same category. I didn't see any difference between the two groups. However, after I learned about them they really had two different life styles. Both of the groups were treated differently by Americans too.
The Chinese and the Japanese both came to the United States for two different reasons. The Japanese came for better jobs and money. The Japanese brought their entire family with them to get out of the harsh taxes the government gave to farmers. The Japanese also mostly settled in Hawaii and worked on farms. However, the Chinese came over to get out of all the Opium wars. The Chinese were also in tough times economically so they looked towards America and the mainland as their way of freedom. The Chinese also only came to stay temporairly. That is why mostly only the men went over and left their families behind. They just went to make money and return to their families. The Japanese said they were there only temporairly also, however they were really planning on staying. This made it easier for Americans to get along with Chinese people unlike Japanese.
In the end both groups chose the same thing. They both decided to stay in the United States because there were a lot of more job oppurtunities. Both groups needed the money to help provide for their families. The Americans descriminated against these groups at first in many different ways. The Chinese had to deal with an enforcement of a lot of new laws against them. They had the Chinese Exclusion Act and the Naturalism Law. The Chinese Exclusion Act, kept anymore Chinese people from entering America. The Naturalism Law, stated Chinese people could not become citizens because they were not white. The Japanese had to deal with descrimination from their farm owners. The owners would make their workers a very ethnic group to try and keep from rebelling workers. The Japanese were well informed that they couldn't have skilled jobs because they were not Americans. The Japanese were hit with the Alien Land Law. This law prevented any the Japanese from owning any land to grow crops on.
The Japanese and Chinese dealt with discrimination much differently. However, they both made it through it with many lucky breaks along time. Both are now a big part of our society. They both have had a different road to come down, but both ended up on the same road ok.
