In the past week I have learned I have many advantages. I already knew about most of my advantages, but I have learned I have some more. My family history project tought me all the advantages I had over my mom growing up. She did not have the technology advantages I have for one. This is a big advantage without it I would not be writing this blog. Technology has also made it easier for me to do a lot of little things in life. Without technology I personally would probably be lost. I also learned that I have a big advantage financially. My mother had to work her butt off to make it through college. She had to pay for college on her own and at sometimes had to take on two jobs. I am lucky and my parents help me pay for college. Some of it I pay for, but they help me a lot which makes life a lot easier on me.
I am lucky because of my social and economic location. My parents live in a beautiful neighborhood with a wonderful house they built themselves. They bought me my car and pay for my car insurance which is amazing. It lets me keep my money to enjoy a lot of fun things in life. Socially I get along with everyone and anyone. It does not matter what people look like or seem like. I only judge people on their personailty. I could careless about material status like most of the world. Politically I am not as lucky right now. I am a republican and the democrats are controling our nation. So, right now that seems to be the only thing in my life that is against me.
My race is a huge advantage in this world. I am lucky and do not have to deal with any of the racism that a lot of people face. I am caucasian and this is going to help me out in plenty of different ways. Even though people say that racism is over, I really do not believe that. They might not act as racist, but there are situations in which black people are discriminated against. I am also very lucky to be a male. Male's have many advantages that most female's do not. I do not have to worry about some of the scary things like being raped. Girl's fear this all the time because it would be the worst experience ever. Plus, there are more jobs available for males which is a huge advantage. Over all I feel I am very lucky and have a lot of advantages working on my side.

Blog 4
Violence has been apart of black people's life ever since they came to the United States. White's dominated and owned blacks' like they were a horse or other livestock. Everything that white people could do to blacks' has pretty much been done. Black people have been discriminated against for years. Black people have been beaten, lynched, raped, and many more. Black people started to fight back in two different ways. Some fought back with violence and others used non-violence.
Violence
The people who used violence followed the great "Malcolm X" as their leader. They would listen to what he said and follow him. He told the black community if the government was going to step in and help them out then they needed to stand up for themselves. He feels that black men should stand up for themselves and their family. He also states that every man can own a rifle or shotgun and he thinks all black men should have one. Malcolm X doesn't believe a black man should just go out and kill a white person. However, if the government will not help out blacks when whites are killing them and raping their wifes then the black man should step in and do whatever is necessary even death. Malcolm X did what he knew was right to stand up for himself. He was tired of all the racist people that happened to be most of the white community hurting the black community. He was sick of whites getting away with the harsh crimes they committed on blacks. If I was him I would of been the same way. It is awful that white men could rape black women and not have any consiquences. So, he got supporters behind him and rallied with violent acts against white men. That was how Malcolm X thought racism would end. He figured if whties were scared of blacks then they would respect them.
Non-Violence
The non-violent approach was the approach Martin Luther King Jr. took. He didn't want to fight whites he just wanted to gain their respect peacefully. He did this by holding many marches and saying many speeches. Martin gained many supporters to follow him. He did what he could to help make peace in the United States. His tactics involved a lot less deaths and overall helped win blacks their freedom.

Blog: 3
For blog 3 i decided to compare and contrast the differences between Chinese people and Japanese people. Originally I just grouped the Chinese and the Japanese in the same category. I didn't see any difference between the two groups. However, after I learned about them they really had two different life styles. Both of the groups were treated differently by Americans too.
The Chinese and the Japanese both came to the United States for two different reasons. The Japanese came for better jobs and money. The Japanese brought their entire family with them to get out of the harsh taxes the government gave to farmers. The Japanese also mostly settled in Hawaii and worked on farms. However, the Chinese came over to get out of all the Opium wars. The Chinese were also in tough times economically so they looked towards America and the mainland as their way of freedom. The Chinese also only came to stay temporairly. That is why mostly only the men went over and left their families behind. They just went to make money and return to their families. The Japanese said they were there only temporairly also, however they were really planning on staying. This made it easier for Americans to get along with Chinese people unlike Japanese.
In the end both groups chose the same thing. They both decided to stay in the United States because there were a lot of more job oppurtunities. Both groups needed the money to help provide for their families. The Americans descriminated against these groups at first in many different ways. The Chinese had to deal with an enforcement of a lot of new laws against them. They had the Chinese Exclusion Act and the Naturalism Law. The Chinese Exclusion Act, kept anymore Chinese people from entering America. The Naturalism Law, stated Chinese people could not become citizens because they were not white. The Japanese had to deal with descrimination from their farm owners. The owners would make their workers a very ethnic group to try and keep from rebelling workers. The Japanese were well informed that they couldn't have skilled jobs because they were not Americans. The Japanese were hit with the Alien Land Law. This law prevented any the Japanese from owning any land to grow crops on.
The Japanese and Chinese dealt with discrimination much differently. However, they both made it through it with many lucky breaks along time. Both are now a big part of our society. They both have had a different road to come down, but both ended up on the same road ok.

Blog #2-Indentured Servants and Slavery
Slavery has been woven throughout American society over a long period of time. It started with the finding of the new world. People wanted to move to the new world to get out of Europe which was becoming over crowded. However, not everyone could afford or find the means of transportation to the new world. So, they decided to become indentured servants for people that could take them over to the new world. This is how slavery originally started. It was a way for people that didn't have money to make it to the new world. Becoming an indentured servant meant working for a certain period of time to repay the person that brought people over to the new world.
The indentured servants were mostly made up of white people and not very many blacks. Most of these white people came from Ireland and Germany. Some of the Irish where unwillingly forced to go to America apart of the "Irish Slave Trade." The Irish made up most of the indentured servants. All of the indentured servants were treated equally. They just worked as hard as they could until they got their freedom. The Irish, Germans, and African Americans originally all bonded considering they all where apart of their own little society. They all were servants and had too work to recieve their freedom.
Later on legislation passed a law that singled out black servants from the white servants. Whites where allowed to do more than what blacks where allowed to do. The next law that was passed was that all whites where allowed to posses a firearm. They where then required to carry their firearm to protect their colonies from the blacks.
After a short while whites started rebelling against their owners causing riots all over the new world. They started rebelling because the promises that where made to them never came through. They started turning on all their owners so they could be free and start their new lives in the new world. Bacon's Rebellion is one of the most noteable revolts that happened in which a lot of blood was shed. The owners of the indentured servants began to become very worried for their lives with all the rebellings going on. So, they decided to give up white servants and turned their attention to black servants.
Once they turned their attention to black servants they headed off towards Africa. Africa had all the needs the landowners possesed to satisfy their need for labor. They completely turned away from white servants and decided blacks were the real slaves. Not long after the laws where passed that talked about what made black slaves a true slave. This put all the pressure on the white landowners and indentured servants. The white indentured servants originally worked and fought side by side with the blacks. However, when it came down to getting rights and being free the white indentured servants could have cared less about the blacks.
The civil war was necessary for slavery to end. If this didn't happen then blacks may have never been given any rights. It was also necessary for some whites to help blacks gain there freedoms. Blacks would never been able to over throw whites without the help of some whites on their side.
Even though blacks have equal rights they are still looked down upon in society. They are still seen as bad people that are considered cheap. Most of society would accuse a black of a crime before a white person as well just because of their skin. Society also judges a interracial couple like it is bad to like someone that is not your same skin color.
There are many jobs today that still have similiar things of social control. Most of them tend to deal with hospitals or dentist offices. While you are sitting in a dentist chair the assistant does all the work. They are pretty much the slave for the dentist. When the dentist needs a tool he tells his assistant and they grab it. Their are other situations in which social control is in workplaces, but I just named a few. This type of slavery view will always be present

Ethnic Studies 101 Post 1
The British came to the "New World," with their own cultures and ways of living. When the British showed up at the New World they found people that did not have the same cultures and ways of living. The British instantly watched the new people to see how they lived. After watching over the new people for a little bit the British decided that their ways of living were those of "savages."
The British based this racialization on the fact that the Native Americans would kill animals, how they dressed and the fact they were not well educated. The British believed you should be educated and you should farm for your community. They did not believe you should kill animals and convert to cannibalism. They believed killing animals and wearing their skins were a form of savagery. The British thought it was wrong to not wear proper clothing and to not educate your young properly. Instead of adjusting to the Native Americans culture's the British decided that the Native American's needed to follow their culture's or "else."
The British pushed the Native American's out of their land if they did not adopt to their culture's. Usually while they were pushing out the Native American's it turned into a blood shed battle in which the Native American's lost. The British had weapons that the Native American's could not stop or match up with. This made it easy for the British to force the Native American's out of their lands. The British soon realized that they needed to use some of the cultures that they outed the Native American's for.
Shortly after the British came to the New World they realized that the Native American's did not fit into their culture. Since, the Native American's did not fit into their culture the British decided to make a harsh decision. They decided to force the Native American's out of their land or to convert to their culture's. This did not go over well with the Native American's, which made little battles break out. The Native American's were wiped out by the British as we know today.
Today this racialization still exists. It is not as big as it was then, but people still fear people that are different. Mostly the fear now though is all based on the color of a persons skin. People still do not understand the differences between people of different color. Since, we do not understand people of different race one race became dominent. We know that white people became dominent. Even though we are supposed to be passed racism we still are not. Black people still are frowned upon and do not get the same rights of white people. This all started because of racism formed from the British.
